Normally you will be able to purchase a car within a year after bankruptcy and a home within 2 years after bankruptcy or 3 years after a bankruptcy and foreclosure.   But, 90% of credit reports have incorrect information.   Over 45% are serious enough to deny you credit so repair your file after filing.  if you don't repair bad credit after bankruptcy you may not have a life after bankruptcy and it will cost you. Just 200 points will cost you $300 a month more for a $150,000 dollar home in higher interest rates. It means the difference in driving a Ford or a Mercedes. The amount of incorrect information on most credit reports is amazing.  Some credit cards and buy here pay here car lots engage in credit reporting practices that keep you as a customer by keeping your credit scores low.

About the only method to repair your credit report is to clean your record and dispute inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, unverifiable, and outdated information. You can write a  letter yourself.  Many credit repair agencies are scams.  Often they will tell you to get a false ID -  which isn't credit repair and isn't legal.  Others collect high fees and often charge over $1000 dollars up front for no results and often shut down within a year.  They lack the muscle of being able to file a lawsuit against a credit reporting agency.  Due to the high number of scams, the FTC has special rules and has tried to shut these places down but the scams still exist.

You are not supposed to be able to repair or remove true credit information, but if a bank fails to validate credit information and confirm that it is true, even correct credit information can be permanently removed.
